Antibiotic-associated diarrhoea (AAD)

Antibiotic-associated diarrhoea is a frequent problem

Antibiotic-associated diarrhoea (AAD) affects up to 25 % of antibiotic treated patients. In many of these cases, overgrowth of the toxigenic bactrium Clostridium difficile has been the cause. In the US, the incidence of adults hospitalised with C. difficile-associated disease has doubled between 2000 and 2005.

Symptoms vary

Diarrhoea can vary from frequent, loose or watery stools with no other complication, to a severe disease requiring surgical intervention and which may also prove fatal. Other symptoms such as bloating, stomach pain and other functional abdominal symptoms may also occur.

Proven efficacy on AAD

BioGaia Probiotic products for gut health contain Lactobacillus reuteri Protectis. Prevention and treatment of AAD is one of the best established effects of probiotics and BioGaia´s Probiotics have shown significant effects in both children and adults.
